Campus viruses - Perpetual Absurdity

They upgraded the antivirus program on the computers in the lecture halls. Personally, I don't think it is going to do much. Microsoft Office on the lecture hall computer now chokes like an old model-T at random. Probably the reason for the upgrade. Rumor has it that the number of technical staff to attend to both the lecturers' building and the students lecture halls (all 4 floors) is a grand total of..

I think I can try and apply to work part time for them. The very least I could guarantee them is Microsoft Office working when needed, virus and spyware free. And it would definitely contribute to my Lingghezhi PC Fund (yes, that's what I'm going to call my effort to raise enough cash from laptop repairs to buy myself an Asus EEE pc.)

I've never seen so many viruses/spyware/malware/trojans before coming to Manipal. It's like this place doesn't just attract medical students, cholera, filariasis and malaria. To boot, the computers here suffer chronically from spyware. Loads of it. It's come to a point where I can't think of a single terminal where I can plug my usb drive in and be assured that I won't be coming back with an infection.

Not that it worries me *smiles at linux symbol on desktop*

Naturally, using linux means my laptop is immune. But my usb drive does sometimes go to people who are not. So I keep a less than purposeful antivirus program.

Those who take my external drive should be grateful for I run this not for me
